Why does Petra take the keys from the secretary's desk rather than wait for the secretary to return?
Petra and Calder find a surprise when they unwrap the found object. What was the surprise?

Petra would rather be blamed for taking the keys than be blamed for having Calder in the basement for most of the morning.
The surprise that Petra and Calder found was that the painting was not A Lady Writing.
Petra took the keys so the secretary would not know Calder was in there all morning.The suprise was it was not the Lady Writing.

Because she left Calder in the basement and being punished for taking the keys was alot less worse than them finding out Calder was in the basement.
The picture was not A Lady Writting;It was a lady with a pear shaped head,golf ball earrings,and an orange moon with a melting castle..(Somebody PLEASE get that 2nd grader away from that paint!!!!)

They took the keys from the secetary because Petra did not want the secetary to know that Calder was hiding down in the bacement. The painting they found looked like a 1st grader had painted it.

1. She takes the keys because if she waited for the secretary she would see Calder and they would most likely get exspelled.
2. When they open the packet they find out that it is not the painting they are looking for.

Petra thought it would be better to be blamed for taking the keys then being wound out that Calder had been in the basement over night. After unwrapping the painting Petra and Calder find out that it was done by a second grader, not a famos artist.

1. Because Calder is Stuck inside the basement with what is supposed to be the lady.
2. That the painting is not the lady writing, its like a second grade version of it.
