How does the thief keep the public interested in the theft? How do the authorities respond?

The thief keeps the public interested by sending a letter to the press every few days.For example:
The thief tells the reason why he/she stole the painting.

The theif sent a letter telling them to fix the errors about Vermmer and for the public to express how they feel on a blog he made. F.B.K.

The thief sent an unsigned letter ant made a blog that asked for people's opinions on "the lies of lifework around Johannes Vermeer". It had over 1,000 posts.

He/she does it by a blog and by the newspaper. The authorities respond by the newspaper.

He puts on a blog that says information on the thief.Then people start commenting on the blog and there is already more then a 1,000,000 posts.

The thief is keeping a blog and sending letters to the newspaper. The newspaper answers back by puting letters in the newspaper to the thief in it.

The theif sends in letters to the "Chicago Tribune," every few days or so. He also keeps a blog so people will post online letters.
