Independent Novel Study; optional response

During this week everyone is to begin their INS and I am wondering what you think of it so far. Are you enjoying your book as much as you thought you would? Why not write a comment here to share with our class about this experience. Remember, don't give too much away about your book, others may want to read it. But, I am interested in what you think about the characters and the plot.

Chapters 7 and 8

1. Which do you think is a better way to instruct--by example and practice or by verbal instruction?

2. Why do you think Min reacts so strongly to Tree-ear's request to learn how to make a pot? What, if anything, do you think the boy can do to get him to change his mind?

3. Do you think that Tree-ear will still make the journey to bring the new pots to Songdo after his most recent talk with Min? Why or why not?

A Visit From Mrs. Lokke

Mrs. Lokke came to visit our class yesterday and brought along her pottery wheel, some clay, and her tools. We were able to watch her "throw" a pot. She really made it look easy. Do you have any observations about what it might be like to make pottery?

Metaphors

We have been discussing metaphors and how writers use them to create a certain feeling for the passage that is being read. Metaphors also make the passage more interesting.

Please write a sentence or two about what it would be like to be a potter. You will need to include a metaphor.
