Welcome 3rd graders. This will be something new to help you think deeper about our next selection for reading. We will be reading a wonderful book by the Newberry Medal winning author or Crispin.
As you go through your literature circle activities I would like you to take time to visit this blog and comment on posts that I will list here. In order to do this you will create a Word document (save it to your flash drive) and then print that copy out for me to proof before you post your comment. You will save the printed out copy in your binder.
I encourage you to read the comments of your peers and feel free to make additional comments to those.
Our first post for you to respond to is this. If you could be either an owl, mouse, or porcupine-which would you choose to be and why? Remember to give as many details as you can. Please refer to the research chart that we have created.

If I chose to be a mouse, owl or a porcupine I would choose to be a porcupine. I would choose a porcupine because they can protect themselves from predators. If some type of animal tries to eat them they just curl up and push out there spikes. I also like porcupines because they are herbivores. That means that they don’t eat meat. I think a porcupine would be a good animal to be because they can climb. If they see a berry up in a tree they could just climb up and get it. Even though they are slow they are also camouflaged. Predators won’t see them. They will just walk right by. They are large so preditors will go for smaller animals. Porcupines look cute to me. Naomi
If I could pick between an owl, a porcupine, or a mouse I would choose to be an owl. I would like to be an owl because they are not a prey to any animal. Owls also can fly which would be awesome because they fly really high. If I was an owl I would be nocturnal that would be an odd change but I would get used to it. The only down side of being an owl would be that I would be alone because they are solitary creatures.

I want to be a porcupine because I feel porcupines have the best defense and each of the other animals have something bad or gross about them. Mice are disgusting, all icky in a sad place where many end up, the mousetrap. And poor owl, having to feed on one torn mouse for all three meals. I would easily take the life of a porcupine if I could choose of those three. Mia
I want to be a porcupine because they have a lot of defenses. I would be able to take a nap in peace without getting hurt by some animal. If an animal tries to touch me one or more of my quills will get stuck in their body. I would also be able to be camouflaged in with a lot of stuff like logs and trees. I would also be a pretty decent size. I could also get away from predators by hanging out in the tree. I wouldn’t have to worry about catching animals because I could eat all I want to off plants. I am a rounded animal so when I go to curl up and a animal thinks I’m a ball and goes to roll me or push me, that animal just made a big mistake because my quills would stick to them. My last reason is that I wouldn’t have to worry about many animals because after an animal touches me it probably learned its lesson and wont come back again. That’s why I want to be a porcupine rather then a mouse or an owl
