Chapter 20

Poppy places a small earring "to a high branch, so as the tree grows, it will glitter in the sky for all of us to see."

Why do you think Poppy does this? Explain your answer. You may refer to earlier parts of the story to support your conclusion.

I think that Poppy placed the earring on top of the tree because she wanted to remember Ragweed and make him seem special because his words helped her when she was going to find what Mr. Ocax was hiding at new house. Also she was going to put it on the top of the tree because she loved him when he was alive and telling a bunch of jokes about things. Poppy put the earring on top of the tree because he thought about freedom and not about having to fallow a bunch of rules and having to ask permission to go places and cross things.By Naomi

I think Poppy hung her earring for multiple reasons. One reason is so she can remember Ragweed. Another reason I think she hung it is because so she can remember the last night she saw Ragweed. One more reason I thought of while I was reading the end of the book is to mark her victory of killing Mr. Ocax. The last reason I think she hung the earring is so if she’s not right at the tree, she can always see it anywhere she goes.
Then after Poppy hung her earring for victory, Poppy killed Mr. Ocax. One way I could tell Poppy felt sorry she killed Mr. Ocax was she walked away felling really sad because she had forgotten the saltlick for Ereth. But at this point Ereth and his saltlick are not even important anymore. The very last reason I think Poppy put the earring on the branch is that if the wind blows it is high up on a high branch in the leaves, so it won’t fly out. That is why I think Poppy put the earring on a high branch so that everyone can see it. Gwyneth
